Baltimore City Council takes on private prisons, gun safety and grocery beer sales

The council immediately adopted a measure to request state action to authorize beer and wine sales in food retailers like grocery stores.Councilman Antonio Glover, representing District 13, said it will help grocery store retailers increase their revenue. Multiple grocery store chains in Baltimore closed this year and last year, including Grocery Outlet and a location of Food Depot.“This change will bring Maryland in line with 46 other states, including nearby Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C., which grocery stores already sell beer, wine, liquor safely and successfully.,” Glover said. “This is not a silver bullet, but it is a meaningful step forward strengthening grocery stores in our city.
